Black Dice conjure up strange sonic experiments that often build to sensory overload, so we wanted to do a poster that was as bizarre and fun as the music. Inspired by the collage style art the band has championed since its inception, this poster started out as an odd drawing and evolved into the 3 color, fluorescent black light poster you see now. The culinary project of Chef John Maher. spoonrva.com

Chef Johnny came to us with a clear vision of what he needed for his web presence and had already incorporated many web platforms and services into his efforts. We helped him develop a look and a site that integrated these services into a central hub of his typical blitz of online promotion and activity. We also add a few features, like the about, friends and press pages, to help the site feel a bit more like home.

To tie it all together, we created and installed twitter and tumblr themes, keeping his viewer’s experience consistent across platforms. spoonRVA and spoonrva.tumblr.com

It’s been a lot of fun working closely with John and are looking forward to helping him with more of his marketing materials, both online and off.

Active Child @ Black Cat

Lots of nice little details in this poster we did for Active Child, who had a great performance in DC with Balam Acab and Superhumanoids. Matt drew a harp and a statue, so it was great to see both the harp and a pair of statues up on the stage during the show. You can buy one here.

Anduin – Stolen Years CD and LP

We did all the illustrations and packaging for Anduin’s new album Stolen Years. Each image is meant to be a window into a dream-like narrative. We inked two illustrations for each of the eight songs on the record. Then we hand screen printed all sixteen illustrations on double sided inserts. Eight cards went inside the CD jacket and two posters went in the LP sleeve. It was a lot of work, but we couldn’t be more excited about how it all turned out. Alcest @ Strange Matter

When we heard the genre defying French band Alcest was playing Strange Matter with San Francisco’s post-black metal band Deafheaven, we knew we had to do something out of the ordinary. So we decided to print this fluorescent black light poster. The peacock feather was made from two layers of pencil drawings and it really shimmers with a skull popping up from inside.

We recently did this poster for Scott Kelly of Neurosis and Eugene Robinson of Oxbow for their Richmond stop on their acoustic / spoken word tour. After seeing the posters, Scott hit Eugene on the shoulder, pointed to the crows and said, “Hey Eugene, it’s me beating you up.” We were really pleased they immediately picked up on everything we were referencing in this poster. Zola Jesus @ U Street Music Hall

Another sold out show! Going up to see Zola Jesus at U street Music Hall was a lot of fun. We were pleased to see how well our poster echoed the soft blue cube lights that were part of the performance. We still have a stack left over, so you can get one here. World Inferno Friendship Society @ The Camel

A sold out show at the Camel! We haven’t seen a crowd enjoy themselves that much in a long time. We had a lot of fun mimicking those old school constructivist poster designers for this one. Special thanks to W/IFS super fan, Nicola Nonesuch, for catching a typo in our preview in time for us to stop the presses.
